CONCORD, N.H. -- As the Fourth of July weekend and summer sunshine inspires you to get out and hike, bike and paddle New Hampshire’s scenic trails and waterways, the N.H. Fish and Game Department reminds all outdoor enthusiasts that the purchase of a voluntary Hike Safe Card helps support Fish and Game search and rescue capabilities -- and exempts the holder from certain liability for repaying search and rescue costs.

The annual cards can be purchased online at Hike Safe Cards are $25 for an individual or $35 for a family (parents and minor children). They are good through the end of the calendar year.

"Buying a card is an important way to help ensure that personnel trained in wilderness rescue are there to coordinate search efforts if you are lost or hurt in the backcountry," said Fish and Game Law Enforcement Chief Kevin Jordan.

In recent years, Fish and Game has conducted an average of about 180 search and rescue missions each year.
