Atlantic Herring Days Out Meeting - May 23, 2017

DURHAM, N.H. -- The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission's Atlantic Herring Section will hold a meeting on May 23, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., to discuss the allowable “days out” measures for 2017 commercial herring harvesters.  The meeting will be held at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Region 3 Office, 225 Main Street, Durham, NH, 03824.  Please park in the spaces indicated with orange cones.


The 2017 Area 1A allowable catch was set at 31,115 metric tons and seasonal quotas of 72.8% available from June 1 - September 30 and 27.2% available from October 1 - December 30.


New in 2017, federally permitted Herring Category A vessels must declare into the Area 1A fishery prior to the May 23, 2017, meeting.  Small-mesh bottom trawl vessels with a federal Herring Category C or D permit must declare into the Area 1A fishery by June 1, 2017.  Declaration instructions will be sent to herring harvesters.

Vessels are prohibited from landing more than 2,000 pounds of Atlantic herring in Area 1A until June 1, 2017.
