Winter 2016 Ice Fishing Classes Offered

CONCORD, N.H. -- Now that many lakes and ponds have ice, why not get outside and enjoy the New Hampshire winter by taking an ice fishing class? The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s Let’s Go Fishing Program, in partnership with other groups, will offer several ice fishing classes open to the public this winter.

 

All the ice fishing classes include a hands-on indoor session where students learn about ice fishing equipment, ice safety, and winter ecology of lakes and ponds; plus a field trip where students head out to a local waterbody and put their newly learned skills to the test!  Classes are open to anyone, however, those 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. No experience is required, and program participants are exempt from holding a fishing license during the program field trip.

  • Peabody Mill Environmental Center, Amherst -- Two part class on Thursday, February 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Call (603) 673-1141 for more information.
     
  • UNH Cooperative Extension Coos County, Lancaster -- Offered out of the North Country Resource Center on Saturday, February 20, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. To register call Coos County 4-H at (603) 788-4961.
     
  • Pleasant Pond, Francestown -- This one day program will be taking place from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 21. To get involved, contact Let’s Go Fishing Instructor Linda Mikula at scatter15@hotmail.com.
     
  • Wolfeboro Parks & Recreation -- Wolfeboro will be hosting a two-part class from 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, and 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26. Please contact them at (603) 569-5639 or parksdirector@wolfeboronh.us
