Androscoggin River Wildlife Management Area
Acquisition History: This property was purchased in 2001.
Description: Coupled with the adjacent tract of Lead Mine Forest to the west, these parcels provide over 1000 feet of frontage on the Androscoggin River. The upland is northern hardwood.
Common Wildlife: The landscape supports moose, bear, fisher and grouse. Watch for great blue heron, bald eagles, and waterfowl in and around the river.
Directions: From the center of Gorham, take US 2 East for 3.5 miles. Take a left onto N Road, toward the Shelburne Dam and cross the bridge. Use the small Lead Mine State Forest parking area on the left and walk back across the bridge to access the WMA on foot. Just before the railroad tracks, follow the right-of-way through a tract of the Lead Mine Forest; the WMA is about a 550 foot walk in.
