As a Hunter, How Can I Participate in Operation Land Share?

Hunting is a New Hampshire tradition, one that we strive to pass on to present and future generations. With greater than 70% of New Hampshire’s land under private ownership, the key to a quality hunting experience for most of us is the ability to access private lands. If we are to maintain the rich New Hampshire hunting tradition, it is important to remember that access to private land is a privilege provided to us through the generosity of landowners sharing their land with us.

As hunters it is critical that we all work together in partnership with Operation Land Share.  You can volunteer to assist Fish and Game working with private landowners or if you are unable to, you can work with us by following suggestions contained within the Hunter’s Landowner Relations Tool Kit (see links at right).

Remember that through your actions, you represent all hunters.  The impression that you make not only determines if you have a place to hunt, but also that of your fellow hunters.  Always be the best ambassador of hunting that you can be in your actions and words.

Each time you enter the field, take a few moments to reflect upon the partnership between Fish and Game, hunters and most importantly private landowners which has provided the opportunity to hunt and consider what you can do to ensure that it will continue to be available for future generations.

The tradition of hunting will only continue with the generosity of private landowners sharing their land with us. Sharing will only continue if we follow the basic principle of landowner relations: Treat the landowner as you would like to be treated and treat their land as you would like yours to be treated.

If you have any suggestions or thoughts on how we can work together, please do not hesitate to contact Operation Land Share at access@wildlife.nh.gov.
