Dan RogalskiWe had seen four moose in this same spot while scouting. Since we had well over a hundred hours prior to that with no sightings at all, it became our #1 choice for opening day. My sub-permittee Bud Stone, Fitzwilliam NH spotted this fellow about 150 yds out on opening morning, 10 minutes after we started poking our way up a knoll to begin calling. He whispered "Moose". I couldn't spot him and told Bud to shoot if he had a good shot. He did, and then the moose hunched up and ran off. I went up to where we last saw him and he was down, but not out. I put one more round behind the ear to make sure he didn't get up and away. Took us about 6 hours with winch and moose picker to get him in truck, but all went very well. He weighed in at 670 lbs. Had 14 points and the on-site biologist at New Hampton check-in estimated age to be 7 years. We would like to thank all of the landowners that gave us permissions and all the fellow sportsmen in the area that gave us tips and other information regarding local roads and hot spots. We would especially like to thank Charlie Royce of Jaffrey who used his vast network of contacts throughout NH to get us up to date timber harvest info, which is how we found this spot. Thanks, Dan Rogalski, Marlborough NH and Stillman "Bud" Stone, Fitzwilliam NH

Jeff and Lisa AmesJeff and Lisa Ames from Wentworth, owners of JL Guide Service took a nice mid size bull in zone G, weighing in at 520 lbs., 3 1/2 yrs old and a 36 inch spread. We hunted in all kinds of weather to include snow and cold rain on the second day of the hunt. This moose was taken on day three of the hunt in the evening and was the third moose we had seen since opening day. This moose and another came in on a call, talking to us every step of the way.The extraction was a bit difficult due to the fact we had to notify our crew to help bring in items needed and the difficulty of the terrain. The extrication became a family endeavor as Ashley Ames Hartson and her husband Curtis, their two girls, our granddaughters Liddy (2yrs old) and Lena (6 months), Jason Ames and his girlfriend Kristen Gilmore all came to help get the moose out, they even thought to bring us sandwiches. We got out to the truck with moose at 2am and home at 3:30am. We both had a great time and thank NH Fish and Game for the opportunity to hunt.

Brian RoperBrian Roper of Gilford, NH and Mark Roper of Cornish, NH hunted A2 and harvested a 770 pound, 54 inch spread bull with 19 points. The successful hunt was the result of persistence, hard work and teamwork. The bull was spotted, stalked, jumped and tracked on bare ground down a ridge, across a clear cut, through a softwoods forest, into selective cut and back up another ridge before being spotted again and stalked to within 40 yards.

Thanks goes to Bruce Plummer who was a wealth of information on where to scout and hunt and lead the moose recovery.
