Millbrook Trust Conservation Easement

Town: Shelburne
County: Coos
Acreage: 279

Acquisition History: The Fish and Game Department acquired this conservation easement through the LCIP in 1991 from the Trustees for Millbrook Trust.

Description: The area extends from the northern bank of the Androscoggin River to Mount Crag. It protects approximately 1,900 feet of shoreline habitat and provides fishing access to the river. Mill Brook runs from the northern boundary of the property for 2,200 feet and into the Androscoggin.

Common Wildlife: Both big game and small game species occupy the area.

Special Notes: Affirmative trail rights are conveyed to the Austin Brook and Yellow Trails, maintained by the Appalachian Mountain Club. Extraordinary views of the Presidential Range, the Moriah Range, and the Androscoggin are offered from Mount Crag.

This property is also the historic site of the grave of Peter Poor, an early colonial settler who was shot by an Indian and buried on the property in 1781.

Directions: From Route 2 in Shelburne village, take North Rd. across river, then turn left. The area abuts the north side of the road about ½ mile from that intersection.
