December 26, 2012 – As the new year approaches, a statewide coalition hopes parents and child caregivers think about this as a resolution: Connect children with the great outdoors in 2013. The NH Children in Nature Coalition has released a new report, Opening Doors to Happier, Healthier Lives, which outlines recommendations for connecting kids with nature in New Hampshire.

Kids' Events at Rockingham Expo Benefit Barry Conservation Camp

NH Wild Turkey Winter Flock Survey Starts in January
December 20, 2012 – If you see a flock of wild turkeys in New Hampshire this winter, N.H. Fish and Game wants you to report it via the online NH Wild Turkey Winter Flock Survey. Report any turkey flocks seen from January 1 through March 31, at wildnh.com/turkeysurvey. Results of the summer brood survey are also now available.

Wildlife Control Operator Class Offered January 31, 2013

– The New Hampshire Wildlife Control Operators (WCO) training class, offered once a year, will take place on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Fish and Game headquarters, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H., from 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

2012 New Hampshire Fall Hunting Season Results Released
December 19, 2012 -- The preliminary numbers are in for New Hampshire's deer, bear and fall turkey hunting seasons, and it was a successful year for many N.H. hunters. The estimated statewide deer kill for New Hampshire’s 2012 season was 11,590 deer, up 4% from the final 2011 harvest and the highest harvest since 2007.

Manchester Man Charged in Illegal Trapping Case
December 13, 2012 – The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department has brought forward charges against a 67-year-old man in connection with a recent trapping incident which resulted in the death of a domestic dog.

N.H. Fish and Game Commission December Meeting Cancelled 
December 11, 2012 -- The meeting of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Commission originally scheduled for December 19, 2012, has been cancelled. 

Special Fundraising Effort Underway to Help Restore New England Cottontails
December 10, 2012 – Nine New England cottontails that were born and raised in captivity now call New Hampshire home. They are here as a result of a major effort among six states to restore their population and protect them before they disappear forever. A special fundraising effort is now underway to support this multi-faceted restoration effort for New Hampshire’s only native cottontail.

Winter 2013 Ice Fishing Classes Offered

– Once the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is over, why not get outside and enjoy the New Hampshire winter by taking an ice fishing class? N.H. December 7, 2012 -- Registration opens January 7 for the 2013 Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) Winter Workshop, a one-day program where women can learn outdoor skills to enjoy during the winter months.

ASMFC Northern Shrimp Section Sets Specifications for 2013 Fishery
December 7, 2012 – The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Northern Shrimp Section has approved a total allowable catch of 625 metric tons, representing a 72% reduction from last year’s quota, and set season starting dates for 2013.

Registration Open for Women’s Fly Tying Course
December 6, 2012 -- Women who love fly-fishing can now sign up for a fly-tying course with master fly tiers Jim and Kris Riccardi. The N.H. Becoming an Outdoors Woman Program and Let’s Go Fishing are teaming up to offer the course on Wednesday evenings from January 23 through February 20, at the Town of Bow Fire and Rescue Facility, 2 Knox Road, Bow, N.H.

Public's Help Sought in Finding Moose Poacher in Berlin, N.H.
December 3, 2012 – N.H. Fish and Game Conservation Officers are seeking help from the public in identifying suspect(s) in the case of a moose killed illegally in Berlin, N.H., and left to rot.

Joint Border Investigation Nets Illegal Moose Hunters
December 3, 2012 -- A cooperative effort along the border separating Pittsburg, N.H., and Quebec, Canada, led to the arrest of two Canadian citizens during a surveillance detail in late October.

Nominations Sought for NH Fish and Game Commission Awards
November 30, 2012 -- Do you know a person or organization who has made a difference for New Hampshire wildlife, fisheries, open land and wild places, in support of N.H. Fish and Game's mission? Nominate them for a Commission Award of Excellence! The deadline is December 31.

Time to Sign Up for Snowmobile Safety Classes
November 30, 2012 – Winter is almost here, and snowmobile education classes are underway across the state.  To operate a snowmobile in New Hampshire, any person age 12 or older must have either a valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License or have successfully completed an approved OHRV Safety Education class taught by volunteer instructors trained by Fish and Game.

Wildlife Action Grants Available
November 28, 2012 -- Teachers and community members interested in involving youth to make a difference for wildlife through habitat projects on schoolyards, public areas or community lands can apply to the Homes for Wildlife Action Grant Program for start-up funds. Application deadline: February 1, 2013.

Public Hearing December 11 Miscellaneous Rules on Scallops, Shellfish and Special Wildlife Permit
November 28, 2012 -- Miscellaneous rules on scallops, shellfish and a special wildlife transfer permit will be the topic of a public hearing at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive in Concord, N.H.

Registration Opens for Free Winter Indoor Archery Leagues - Holderness N.H.
November 28, 2012 - This winter, N.H. Fish and Game will offer free archery leagues for both beginners and experienced archers at Fish and Game's Owl Brook Hunter Education Center in Holderness, N.H.  Registration is now open.

NH Fish and Game Acquires Boat Access Site on Lake Winnipesaukee

-- The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department recently purchased a private marina known as Downing’s Landing at the southern tip of Alton Bay. That means Fish and Game, after many years, has finally acquired a boat access facility on Lake Winnipesaukee, the state’s largest lake.

Northern Shrimp Public Hearing Set for December 3, 2012
November 20, 2012 -- N.H. Fish and Game will hold a public hearing and specifications-setting meeting for the 2012/2013 northern shrimp fishing season, in conjunction with a meeting of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Northern Shrimp Section, on December 3 in Portland, Maine. 

Hunting-related Untimely Death in Swanzey, NH
November 20, 2012 -- The body of a hunter was recovered in Swanzey, N.H,. early Tuesday morning, November 20, 2012.

Derry Man Struck in Hunting-Related Shooting
November 16, 2012 – A 27-year-old Derry man, Russell Raymond, narrowly escaped serious injury on Friday afternoon (Nov. 16) after being shot by another hunter. The incident occurred at while Raymond was deer hunting in a wooded area in Pelham.

Monroe Man Injured in OHRV Rollover
November 14, 2012 -- At approximately 9:30 a.m., Irving Lang, age 72, of Coppermine Road in Monroe, was involved in an OHRV accident while heading out into the woods to go hunting.

2012 Youth Deer Hunt Weekend Results for New Hampshire
November 9, 2012
-- Preliminary reports show that young hunters succeeded in harvesting 359 deer during the 2012 Youth Deer Hunt Weekend in New Hampshire, which took place on October 27-28.

Atlantic Herring Closure in Effect for Area 1A
November 8, 2012
-- Commercial fishermen are prohibited from landing Atlantic herring taken from Management Area 1A, because herring harvesters reached the projected 95% of allowable harvest quota for the period. The closure went into effect at noon on Monday, November 5, 2012, and will remain in effect through midnight on May 31, 2013.

30/30 Gun Raffle Tickets Available through November 15 at Barn Store of New England
November 2, 2012
– Tickets for the 30/30 gun raffle benefiting Conservation Law Enforcement activities of the N.H. Fish and Game Department are now available only at the Barn Store of New England on Route 4 in Salisbury. Thirty guns are being raffled off, one each day in November.

Time Change for N.H. Fish and Game Commission November 21 Meeting
November 2, 2012 -- The N.H. Fish and Game Commission will hold its next monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the N.H. Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H. This is a change from the usual starting time.

"Let’s Go Fishing" Seeks Volunteer Fishing Instructors
November 2, 2012
– N.H. Fish and Game's “Let’s Go Fishing" program is currently seeking volunteer instructors to teach ice fishing, fly fishing or basic fishing to youth and adults. Sign up for new instructor training by November 21.

62% of Hunters Successful in 2012 N.H. Moose Hunt
October 29, 2012 -- New Hampshire’s 2012 moose season wrapped up on Sunday, October 28. While hunters have until close of business to register their moose, preliminary figures show that 174 hunters succeeded in taking their moose during the 9-day season.

Continued Atlantic Herring Spawning Closure October 30-November 13, 2012
October 29, 2012 - Recent sampling of commercial catches indicates Atlantic herring spawning activity is ongoing. Therefore, the New Hampshire/Massachusetts Spawning Area will be closed effective 12:01 AM October 30 through midnight November 13, 2012.

ASMFC Northern Shrimp Section to Meet November 9, 2012
October 26, 2012 – The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Northern Shrimp Section will meet on November 9, 2012, in Portland, Maine, to consider final approval of Addendum I to Amendment 2 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Northern Shrimp. The Technical Committee will meet October 31 to update 2012 stock assessment.

Apprentice Hunting License: New Way to "Take a friend – Make a hunter"
October 25, 2012
-- New Hampshire has a new opportunity this year for sharing or participating in the hunting experience. The Apprentice Hunting License allows people to hunt, under the guidance of an experienced hunter age 18 or older, without taking a Hunter Education course.

Moose Hunt Update: 50% of N.H. Moose Hunters Successful So Far
October 25, 2012-- As of Wednesday, October 24, a total of 141 moose had been taken in the 2012 New Hampshire moose hunt (84 bulls and 57 cows). That means that half (50%) of the 281 hunters holding moose permits had succeeded by the midway point in the nine-day season.

30/30 Gun Raffle Tickets Are Going Fast - Deadline November 15!
October 24, 2012 – Thirty guns will be raffled off in November to benefit Conservation Law Enforcement activities of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

Opening Day for Regular Firearms Deer Season Is November 14, 2012
October 23, 2012 – Opening day for New Hampshire’s regular firearms deer season is November 14, a date anticipated with great enthusiasm by the state’s estimated 60,000 deer hunters. Muzzleloader season gets underway November 3.

October 23, 2012 – New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers had yet another busy weekend rescuing lost or injured hikers. See highlights from four rescues.

N.H. Moose Hunt Opening Weekend Brings 25% Success
October 22, 2012 – One-fourth of New Hampshire’s moose hunters were successful during the first two days of the nine-day season, achieving a 25% success rate on the opening weekend of the hunt.

October 15, 2012 -- A 14-year-old female from Bennington, VT, was injured in an accident while operating an ATV in New Hampshire on Saturday.

October 12, 2012 -- For nine exciting days, from October 20 to 28, lucky moose permit holders and their hunting partners will have the experience of a lifetime taking part in New Hampshire’s annual moose hunt.

CWD Detected in Pennsylvania Deer
October 12, 2012 – With the recent discovery of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in a Pennsylvania deer, N.H. Fish and Game officials remind hunters of the ban on importing intact deer carcasses from CWD-positive jurisdictions such as Pennsylvania, into New Hampshire.

Fall Turkey Shotgun Season Coming Monday-Friday, October 15-19

-- New Hampshire’s five-day fall shotgun turkey hunting season takes place Monday through Friday, October 15-19, in all but six of the state's Wildlife Management Units.

Wildlife Heritage Foundation of NH Tops Half Million Mark in Funds Awarded and Leveraged
October 10, 2012 -- The N.H. Fish and Game Department was recently awarded $53,200 in grants from the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire, bringing the Foundation's total awards to, and funds leveraged for, Fish and Game programs to more than $500,000 since 2009.

Prescribed Burn in Concord Airport Area to Improve Wildlife Habitat
October 9, 2012 - N.H. Fish and Game and the N.H. Department of Resources and Economic Development Division of Forests and Lands, with support from the N.H. Army National Guard, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the City of Concord, will conduct a “prescribed burn” in areas on and near Concord Municipal Airport grounds this fall.  It may occur as early as October 11.

Toddler Found Safe in Henniker
October 8, 2012 -- A lost 3½-year-old boy was found safe in Henniker after being lost in the woods for approximately 4½ hours on Monday, October 8, 2012.

Lost Hunter Located in Marlow
October 8, 2012 -- N.H. Fish and Game Conservation Officers had a successful conclusion to search for a lost hunter in Marlow late Saturday night into Sunday morning (October 7).

October 8, 2012 – N.H. Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers had a busy weekend rescuing hikers who became lost or injured while out enjoying the state's fall foliage.

Missing Rochester Man Is Found Safe in Strafford
October 8, 2012
– The search for a missing Rochester man in Strafford concluded successfully today when the man was found safe, camping about a half-mile from his car, which was parked in Strafford.

Hampton Woman Injured in Sandown ATV Accident
October 8, 2012 – A 30-year-old woman was injured in an All-Terrain Vehicle rollover and collision in Sandown Sunday afternoon. 

Free Outdoor Adventure Talk: Deer Hunting – The Three Phases of the Rut
October 5, 2012 – Pick up some effective deer hunting strategies at the final talk in Fish and Game's fall outdoor adventure series. "Deer Hunting – the Three Phases of the Rut" will be presented on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at 7 p.m. at the N.H. Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H.

Brood Stock Atlantic Salmon Offer Exciting Fall Fishing
October 5, 2012 – N.H. anglers looking for some challenging catch-and-release sport fishing should head to the Merrimack and Pemigewasset rivers.  October and November are the best months for fall Atlantic salmon fishing in New Hampshire.

Wildlife Habitat Improvements Slated for Kearsarge Wildlife Management Area
October 5, 2012 - N.H. Fish and Game and the N.H.Division of Forests and Lands report that a timber sale aimed at improving wildlife habitat is slated for the Kearsarge Wildlife Management Area.

NH Hearing October 15 on Atlantic Menhaden Draft Amendment 2
October 5, 2012  – Atlantic coastal states have scheduled hearings to gather public comment on Draft Amendment 2 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Atlantic Menhaden. The N.H. hearing will be held on October 15, 2012, at 7 p.m. at the Urban Forestry Center, 45 Elwyn Road in Portsmouth, N.H.

Public Hearing October 2 on Winter Flounder Draft Addendum II
September 27, 2012 -- New Hampshire will hold a hearing on the Draft Addendum II to Amendment 1 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for the Inshore Stocks of Winter Flounderon Tuesday, October 2, at 7:45 p.m. (after the Northern Shrimp Hearing), at the Urban Forestry Center in Portsmouth, N.H.

September 27, 2012
– The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Northern Shrimp Section has approved for public review and comment Draft Addendum I to Amendment 2 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Northern Shrimp. Understanding the Science Behind Northern Shrimp Management
September 26, 2012
– With the goal to improve the public’s understanding of the science behind the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s management of northern shrimp, the ASMFC Northern Shrimp Technical Committee will be conducting a Northern Shrimp Science Workshop on October 17, 2012, from 10 AM to 3 PM in Portland, Maine.

N.H. Pheasant Season Opens October 1
September 25, 2012 – New Hampshire's hunting season for pheasant gets underway on October 1 and continues through December 31. There will be approximately 75 stocking sites in 50 towns.

Be aware that a new rule designed to protect bats prohibits the exclusion of bats from unoccupied structures by licensed Wildlife Control Operators from May 15 through August 15, unless the N.H. Department of Health and Human Services has documented a rabid bat on the property. White-nose Syndrome, a disease deadly to bats, has also been documented in another New Hampshire county.

February 2, 2012 – N.H. Fish and Game Executive Director Glenn Normandeau will be among the panelists in an upcoming workshop on "Landowner Liability & Recreational Uses," sponsored by the N.H. ASMFC Northern Shrimp Section Revises 2012 TAC; Next Meeting February 2, 2012
