2010 New Hampshire Deer and Bear Hunting Season Results
December 30, 2010 -- Based on preliminary registration tallies at the close of the season, N.H. hunters harvested 9,765 deer in 2010. The estimated statewide harvest was down 6% from the 2009 total of 10,384 deer. The unofficial harvest tally for New Hampshire's 2010 bear season is 706 bears.

Fish and Game: N.H. Ice Conditions Unsafe
December 23, 2010 – The N.H. Fish and Game Department and local officials are getting reports of unsafe ice around the state. “Many small lakes and ponds have frozen over, but ice conditions may not be safe,” said Col. Martin Garabedian, Chief of N.H. Fish and Game’s Law Enforcement Division. “Be patient and wait for solid ice. Before you go out on the ice, check the thickness for yourself.”

Vandalism Kills 15,000 Hatchery Trout; Information Sought
December 22, 2010 -- N.H. Fish and Game and Milford Police are looking for any information regarding an act of vandalism at the Milford Fish Hatchery on Saturday, December 18. A water pumping station was broken into, resulting in the mortality of approximately 15,000 rainbow trout at the hatchery.

N.H. Recreational Saltwater Angler License Coming in 2011
December 20, 2010 -- In New Hampshire, as of January 1, 2011, a N.H. Saltwater Recreational Fishing License is required for all persons age 16 and older fishing in coastal and estuarine waters of the state. Licenses are available wherever freshwater fishing and hunting licenses are sold, or online at www.fishnh.com.

Wildlife Control Operator Class Offered January 20, 2011
December 10, 2010 – The New Hampshire Wildlife Control Operators (WCO) training class, offered once a year, will take place on Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Fish and Game headquarters, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H., from 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
There is no charge for the one-day class, but pre-registration is required.

Hunter Lost Near Bear Brook State Park Located by Searchers
December 4, 2010 – On December 3, at about 3:00 PM, hunter Marcel Sinotte, age 76, of Manchester went deer hunting in a wooded area near Bear Brook State Park. He became lost. A search commenced, and he was located at 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 4.

Vermont Man Dies while Hiking on Willey Mountain Trail in N.H.
December 1, 2010 – A 69-year-old man from Thetford, Vermont, died yesterday while hiking in the Crawford Notch area of New Hampshire's White Mountains.
Atlantic Herring Management Area 1A Reopened
November 24, 2010 – The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has estimated the quota for ASMFC Atlantic herring Management Area 1A has not yet been harvested. The directed herring fishery in Area 1A will be reopened effective 12:01 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2010, and will close effective 12:01 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2010.
2010/2011 Northern Shrimp Fishing Season Set at 136 Days
November 17, 2010 -- The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission's Northern Shrimp Section approved a 136-day fishing season for the 2010-2011 northern shrimp fishery. The season was reduced from last year’s season of 180 days to account for a smaller population of northern shrimp.

November 17, 2010 – A public hearing about proposed rules affecting the importation and possession of alligators, crocodiles and bison, as well as clarifying the rules on furbearer hunting, is set for Thursday, December 16, at 3:00 p.m. at the N.H. Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H.
Atlantic Herring Closure for Area 1A Effective November 17, 2010
November 16, 2010 – Commercial fishermen will be prohibited from landing Atlantic herring taken from Management Area 1A effective 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17 because herring harvesters are projected to reach 95% of the allowable harvest quota for the period. The closure will remain in effect through midnight on December 31, 2010.

November 16, 2010 – The New Hampshire Fish and Game Commission is calling for nominations for their annual Awards of Excellence program. November 4, 2010 - Preliminary reports show that young hunters succeeded in harvesting 376 deer during the 2010 Youth Deer Hunt Weekend in New Hampshire, which took place on October 23-24.

October 29, 2010 - Results of an autopsy by the NH State Medical Examiners Office have positively identified the recovered body from the remote woods in Waterville Valley, NH, to be missing elderly woman Beth Upton.

October 27, 2010 – Opening day for New Hampshire’s regular firearms deer season is November 10, 2010, a date anticipated with great enthusiasm by the state’s estimated 60,000 deer hunters.

October 27, 2010 -- New Hampshire’s 2010 moose season wrapped up on Sunday, October 24, with 302 hunters succeeding in taking their moose during the 9-day season. With a total of 400 permits issued, this represents a statewide success rate of 76%.

Moose Hunt Update: 61% of N.H. Moose Hunters Successful So Far
October 21, 2010 -- As of October 20, a total of 244 moose had been taken in the 2010 N.H. moose hunt (172 bulls and 72 cows); that means that 61% of hunters holding moose permits had succeeded by the mid-way point in the season.

October 19, 2010 – A young bull moose has been successfully tranquilized and is being moved from busy downtown Hampton, New Hampshire, where it has been the talk of the town since Sunday.
N.H. Moose Hunt Opening Weekend Brings 32% Success
October 18, 2010 – Nearly a third of New Hampshire’s moose hunters were successful during the first two days of the season, achieving a 32% success rate on the opening weekend of the hunt. On Saturday and Sunday (October 16 and 17), a total of 127 moose were taken by moose hunters statewide – 89 bulls and 38 cows.

Hiker Carried Out from Cave Mountain Trail in Bartlett after Medical Emergency
October 08, 2010 -- A hiker with a medical condition (Robert McMahon of Georgetown, Mass., age 52) was carried off a trail in New Hampshire's White Mountains early this afternoon and taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Hudson Teen Located During Overnight Search
October 1, 2010 – N.H. Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers assisted in a search last night for a reported runaway, a 15-year-old Hudson boy. Search teams found the teenager at 12:30 a.m. and returned him safely home.

Pheasant Season Opens October 1
September 30, 2010 – New Hampshire's hunting season for pheasant gets underway on October 1 and continues through December 31. This year, N.H. Fish and Game will release 13,500 pheasants, purchased exclusively with revenues from the sale of pheasant licenses, at 75 stocking sites in 48 towns.

September 16, 2010 -- Atlantic herring (sea herring) harvesters and dealers should be aware that herring spawning areas within the jurisdiction of New Hampshire will be closed from 12:01 a.m. on October 1, 2010, through midnight on October 28, 2010 (pursuant to Fis 603.07). It is unlawful to fish for, take, or possess unprocessed herring during this closure.

August 23, 2010 -- Just before midnight on August 22, Fish and Game was notified that 10-year-old Michel Houghton of Duxbury, Mass., had taken a five-foot fall, hitting his head, while staying at Crag Camp Cabin on Mt Adams. Rescuers responded to conduct a carryout.
2010-2011 N.H. Waterfowl Hunting Seasons Set
August 20, 2010 - The NH Fish and Game Department has set final season dates and bag limits for the 2010-11 waterfowl hunting season. After considering comments from sportsmen at the August 18 public meeting, the state's waterfowl hunting season remains similar to last year's, with a 60-day duck season and a six-bird daily limit.

Derry Man Killed after ATV Goes through Ice on Beaver Lake
DERRY, NH -- On Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 11:08 p.m., Edward Jackson, age 53, of Derry died in an OHRV accident on Beaver Lake. Jackson was operating a four wheeled all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on the ice when he broke through near the open channel at the inlet.

Weekend Snowmobile Fatality in Charlestown
January 17, 2010 -- Charlestown Emergency Services and New Hampshire Fish and Game were called to a snowmobile accident in the vicinity of North Hemlock and Old Claremont Roads. The victim was 43-year-old Leland Judd Jr. of Claremont.
