Landowner Liability & Recreational Uses Talk
February 2, 2012 – N.H. Fish and Game Executive Director Glenn Normandeau will be among the panelists in an upcoming workshop on "Landowner Liability & Recreational Uses," sponsored by the N.H. Timberland Owners Association. The session will be offered in two locations: February 7 in Lancaster; and February 8 in Concord.

Educators: Schedule a Free Spring 2012 Classroom Wildlife Program

- Teachers who want to introduce their students in grades 3-6 to New Hampshire’s wildlife resources -- or reinforce wildlife-related lessons they have learned -- have until February 29 to request spring 2012 Wonders of Wildlife (WOW) presentations by trained New Hampshire Fish and Game Department volunteer docents.

Public Hearing on Two Proposed Great Bay Shellfish Operations: March 9 in Durham, NH
February 1, 2012 -- Fish and Game will hold a public hearing on two proposed marine aquaculture applications for licensing on Friday, March 9, 2012, starting at 9:00 a.m.,  at Fish and Game’s Region 3 Office, 225 Main Street, Durham, N.H. 03824. 

Make Your Own Fly Reel Workshop in Concord February 11, 2012
January 31, 2012 -- An opportunity to make your own fly reel and help New Hampshire's Trout in the Classroom program is returning Saturday, February 11, in Concord. It's the second annual Reelsmithing Workshop, led by Michael Hackney of the Eclectic Angler.

Bobhouse Break-ins!

-- After several incidents in which bobhouses were forcibly entered and gear stolen, Fish and Game officials are advising ice anglers to be aware that this activity is going on, to not leave items of value in their bobhouses, and to report suspicious activity to authorities.

Single Vehicle Accident Leaves  Snowmobiler Injured
January 27, 2012 -- On the afternoon of January 26, 2012, Roger Roy, 50, of Litchfield, NH, sustained a leg injury after his snowmobile tipped over on him.

ASMFC Northern Shrimp Section Revises 2012 TAC; Next Meeting February 2, 2012

-- To help address northern shrimp harvester and processor concerns about their ability to maintain markets that have been established over the past few seasons, ASMFC's Northern Shrimp Section has revised the total allowable catch for the 2012 northern shrimp fishery to 2,211 metric tons.

Laconia Man Killed in Belmont Snowmobile Crash
January 23, 2012 – A 25-year-old Laconia man, Robert Horn, died when his snowmobile crashed in Belmont around 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012.

January 10, 2012 -- Instructors from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s “Let’s Go Fishing” Program will present a free three-week Saturday ice-fishing program in Milford on January 28 and February 4 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and February 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration required.

New for 2012:  Change in Allowable Turkey Shot Size
December 30, 2011 – A new rule effective January 1, 2012, changes the allowable shot size for taking wild turkey from #2, #4, #5 and #6 to a shot size of #2 or smaller.

New Hampshire First: Apprentice Hunting Licenses Become Available January 1
December 28, 2011 -- A new law takes effect January 1, 2012, that allows people who are interested in trying hunting or bowhunting an opportunity to do so under the guidance of an experienced hunter without having to take a Hunter Education course first. It's called the New Hampshire Apprentice Hunting License.

Fish and Game: N.H. Ice Conditions Unsafe
December 28, 2011 – The N.H. Fish and Game Department and local officials are getting reports of unsafe ice around the state. “Recent warm weather, rain and wind have made ice conditions unsafe in most parts of the state, although some small lakes and ponds are frozen over..."

Free Ice Fishing Class Offered at Lebanon Recreation Department in Jan. 2012

“Citizen Conservationists” Asked to Report Wild Turkey Flock Sightings
December 21, 2011 – If you see a flock of wild turkeys in New Hampshire this winter, Fish and Game wants to hear about it. Citizens are being asked to report sightings of turkey flocks seen from January 1 through March 31 by filling out an electronic survey form posted at www.wildnh.com/turkeysurvey.

Arrests Made in Ossipee/Tamworth for Illegal Take of Moose and Deer
December 20, 2011 -- The major hunting seasons may be over, but N.H. Fish and Game Conservation Officers are still busy responding to reports of wildlife violations. In two incidents, one in Ossipee and one in Tamworth, three men have been arrested and formally charged for several deer and moose hunting violations.

2011 New Hampshire Deer and Bear Hunting Season Results
December 20, 2011 -- Preliminary numbers for New Hampshire's recent deer and bear hunting seasons are in. The estimated statewide deer kill for New Hampshire’s 2011 season was 11,167 deer, up 14% from 2010 and the highest harvest since 2007. N.H. hunters took a total of 418 bears in 2011.

December 16, 2011 – The New Hampshire Wildlife Control Operators (WCO) training class, offered once a year, will take place on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Fish and Game headquarters, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H., from 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

2012 Junior Duck Stamp Contest Offers Scholarship, Cash Prizes
December 14, 2011 -- Young New Hampshire artists from kindergarten through grade 12 are invited to submit original artwork depicting North American waterfowl to the 2012 New Hampshire Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest.  Entries must be postmarked by March 15, 2012.

Winter 2012 Ice Fishing Classes Offered
December 14, 2011 -- N.H. Fish and Game’s Let’s Go Fishing Program, in partnership with other groups, will offer several free ice fishing classes open to the public this winter.  Be sure to call ahead to reserve your space. Classes will be held in Lebanon, Greenland, Milford, Haverhill, Laconia and Manchester.

Two Maine Hikers Rescued on Mount Chocorua
December 13, 2011 -- Two hikers caught by darkness after taking a wrong turn on Mount Chocorua in Albany, N.H., last night called 911 for help and were grateful to be escorted to safety by rescuers a few hours later.

Missing Durham Hiker Is Rescued
December 13, 2011 – An 82-year-old Newmarket man, Bruce Charity, who was missing since late yesterday, was reached by rescuers about 10:30 a.m. today after a N.H. State Police helicopter spotted him from the air.

Canada Lynx Documented in Northern New Hampshire
December 9, 2011 – Fish and Game biologists have confirmed the presence of four Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis) in northern New Hampshire. The fact that the lynx appeared to be kittens is evidence that the wild cats are breeding in N.H., an expansion of the population across the border in Maine.

Public Hearing on Marine Rules, Lamprey River Set for January 3, 2012
December 5, 2011 -- N.H. Fish and Game will hold a public hearing on proposed marine rule changes on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at 7 p.m., at the Urban Forestry Center, 45 Elwyn Road, Portsmouth, N.H. 03801. The proposed rules would affect persons taking marine species and anglers fishing in the freshwater section of the Lamprey River near Wiswall Dam in Durham, N.H.
