Monroe Man Injured in OHRV Rollover

NEW HAMPTON, N.H. -- On November 14, 2012, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Irving Lang, age 72, of Coppermine Road in Monroe was involved in an OHRV accident while heading out into the woods to go hunting. Lang was traveling through the woods on a steep trail heading uphill when he lost control of the ATV and it rolled over on top of him.

After the incident occurred, Lang was unable to move due to injuries sustained in the rollover.  Following the accident, Lang attempted to get help by firing three consecutive gunshots, but no one in the area reported hearing the gunshots.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., Richard Blanchard of Plains Road in Monroe was traveling on the same trail to go hunting on a nearby ridgeline when he came across Lang lying in the middle of the trail. Blanchard, notified authorities and requested emergency personnel.

Immediately after the call, the following agencies responded to the area of Plains Road in Monroe to assist in the rescue/recovery effort: Monroe Fire Department, Woodsville Ambulance, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART) Helicopter and Conservation Officers from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

Once on scene, rescuers were led to the location of the accident by Blanchard. Rescuers provided medical aid to Lang and placed him on a litter for transport. He was transported out of the woods on a trailer pulled by an All-Terrain Vehicle to the awaiting Woodsville Ambulance for further evaluation. After Lang was given the appropriate initial medical care, he was flown via DHART Helicopter to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

No further information is available at this time.
