Woman fly fishingCONCORD, N.H. -- Women who love fly-fishing and want to learn a new winter hobby can now sign up for a fly-tying course with master fly tiers Jim and Kris Riccardi. The N.H. Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) Program and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s Let’s Go Fishing Program are teaming up to offer the course, which will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings from January 23 through February 20, 2013, at the Town of Bow Fire and Rescue Facility, 2 Knox Road, Bow, N.H.  Participants must attend all five sessions.

A brochure and mail-in registration form for the fly tying course are available to download at nhbow.com. You can also email aquatic-ed@wildlife.nh.gov or call 603-271-3212 to request an application. Registration is first-come, first-served. If you are interested, sign up soon, as the course is limited to 12 participants.  The fee for the course is $100, which includes all equipment, materials and instruction.

While learning to tie several fly patterns, participants will be taught about the basic equipment and materials necessary to tie flies, common patterns and what they imitate.  Instructors will also discuss insect anatomy and explain why a particular fly is used.

Course instructors Jim and Kris Riccardi are master fly tiers and veteran Let’s Go Fishing fly fishing instructors. They have been involved in Let’s Go Fishing and BOW programs for more than 12 years.

New Hampshire's Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program is co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department (WildNH.com) and the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation (nhwf.org).
