Three New Jersey Hikers Rescued in New Hampshire's White Mountains

CONCORD, N.H. – A New Jersey family vacationing in New Hampshire's White Mountains was rescued last night (Tuesday, August 14, 2012) by New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers after being stranded on a mountain trail after darkness fell.

The Einhorn family of Lakewood, N.J. -- Jed (age 57), Miriam (age 54) and their son Chaim (age 31) -- had set out from the Lafayette trailhead to hike a nine-mile loop. They called 911 for assistance at about 9 p.m.  The family did have a small light with them, but it was not sufficient for them to navigate the wooded trail on a very dark night.& They were more than a mile from the trailhead on the Old Bridle Path Trail.

N.H. Fish and Game Conservation Officers were notified and reached the stranded family at about 11:15 p.m.  They were escorted down the mountain, arriving safely at the trailhead at 12:3hikeSafe logo0 a.m.

"This group was familiar with the trail, but did not allow enough time to complete their planned hike," said Fish and Game Lt. James Kneeland.  He emphasized that all hikers should review the hikeSafe code before heading out on the trail and should be equipped with sufficient gear in case the unexpected happens.
