Sunapee Man Killed In An Early Morning Snowmobile Accident In Stewartstown
LANCASTER, N.H. -- New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers are currently investigating a single-vehicle snowmobile accident that claimed the life of Jason Montambeault, age 36, of Sunapee, New Hampshire.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on the morning of February 18, 2012, Montambeult was riding snowmobiles with two friends in the Piper Hill area of Stewartstown. Montambeult was last seen by his riding companions crossing a field, heading in the direction of his camp. In the following hours, Montambeult’s friends became more concerned when he did not show up at the camp, but believed that he may have gone to visit family at another camp.
Shortly after sunup, friends reached out to a cousin of Montambeult who was staying at a neighboring camp with some friends. Searching the area near the camps on snowmobile, Montambeult’s cousin located an accident scene and Montambeult’s body off of Trail 21A, approximately 2 miles from the camp.
Authorities were notified of the accident shortly before 9 a.m. Beecher Falls (VT) Fire and Rescue was first on scene, with N.H. State Police and NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers arriving at approximately 9:30 a.m.
The accident is still under investigation, but speed and alcohol both appear to be contributing factors.
No further information is available at this time.
