GREENLAND, N.H. -- This winter, the Great Bay Discovery Center in Greenland is hosting programs for both kids and adults. 

For adults, a Brown Bag Lunch Lecture is planned for February 15, 2012 (snow date February 16) from 12:00 noon - 1:30 p.m. featuring Dr. Cathy Neal, author of "The Best Plants for New Hampshire Gardens and Landscapes," presenting "Landscaping at the Water's Edge: An Ecological Approach."  Lunch lectures take place at the Hugh Gregg Coastal Conservation Center.  There will also be a lunchtime talk on March 14; topic to be announced.  These are free programs, so just bring your lunch and join us; drinks and dessert will be provided. Children ages 2 – 5 will enjoy our Once Upon a Winter Estuary Program, which meets on Thursday mornings (listed below) from 9:45 to 11:00 a.m.  Each program begins with outdoor activities, games or a winter walk, followed by an indoor story time, craft and hot cocoa.  The cost is $2.00 per child and pre-registration and parent/guardian participation is required.  Please dress warmly for outdoor play.  To register, call 603-778-0015.

* January 26, 2012 -- Animals in Winter:  What do animals do in winter?  Come check out some of the winter animals that live around Great Bay and see what they are up to in winter.

* February 9, 2012 -- In the Snow:  Who’s Been Here?:  Let’s look for animal tracks and animal signs and make some tracks of our own.

* February 16, 2012 -- The Magic School Bus:  Lost in Snow:  All aboard for some winter fun and learning!  We will learn about snow and then join Ms. Frizzle and her students on a snowflake.

For kids 6 – 11, our popular BayVentures Animal Autographs Program will be offered during winter vacation, February 27, 28, 29 and March 1 and 2, 2012.  The same program runs each day from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.; please choose only one of the dates.  The cost for BayVentures is $12 for Great Bay Stewards members and $15 for non-members.  Registration is required.  Children should dress warmly for extended outdoor play and bring a lunch.  We will provide snacks and hot cocoa. Come join us out on the shores of Great Bay and in the woods as we search for animal signs while snowshoeing.  Then we'll head inside to play games and make a craft. To register, call 603-778-0015.

For children ages 6 – 11, a special day to explore the Discovery Center is Friday, March 16, 2012 (workshop day for SAU 16) -- our annual BayVentures Syrup on Snow Program, which takes place from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Join us as we learn about maple sugaring, tap some trees and do a maple syrup taste test on pancakes!  To register, call 603-778-0015.
