Massachusetts Boy Rescued after Injury at Remote Shelter in N.H.'s White Mountains
LANCASTER, N.H. -- At approximately 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2010, Fish and Game was notified through 911 that 10-year-old Michel Houghton of Duxbury, Mass., had taken a five-foot fall, hitting his head and losing consciousness for about four minutes while staying at Crag Camp Cabin on Mt Adams.
New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers, US Forest Service staff and volunteers from the Appalachian Mountain Club, Randolph Mountain Club and Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue responded to conduct a carryout.
Rescuers hiked in three miles to Crag Camp Cabin, where the youth was staying with his father. Fish and Game Officer and Paramedic Brad Morse did a medical evaluation on Houghton, after which rescue personnel started to evacuate the 10-year-old. They arrived at the trailhead at 6:20 a.m., where Houghton was transferred to Gorham Ambulance and transported Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin for further evaluation.
