Public Meeting August 4, 2010, on Atlantic Herring "Days Out"

DURHAM, N.H. -- A public meeting to discuss adjustments to the allowable "days out" measures for the remainder of the 2010 fishing season for commercial herring harvesters from New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts will be held by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. at the Crown Plaza Old Town Hotel (901 North Fairfax Street) in Alexandria, Va. Members of the Atlantic Herring Section from New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts will be present.  Members of the public who cannot attend the meeting may still hear the discussion and comment by calling 877-793-4359 and entering 023861 when prompted for a passcode.

For more information, contact Christopher Vonderweidt, Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission at 202-289-6400; or Doug Grout, New Hampshire Fish and Game Marine Fisheries Division, at 603-868-1095.

The number of allowable "days out" is adjusted with the aim of keeping commercial fishermen from exceeding the total allowable catch for Management Area 1A to avoid having to close the fishery early.
