Women's Outdoor Weekend Workshop:  Learn to Fish from a Kayak

CONCORD, N.H. – Women interested in learning to fish from a kayak can sign up now for a "Becoming an Outdoors-Woman" (BOW) weekend workshop that will be held September 24-26, 2010, at Purity Spring Resort in Madison, N.H. Participants will learn how to rig their kayak for fishing; kayak fishing techniques, including casting, lures, bait and trolling; even what to do when you catch a fish! Participants supply their own spin-casting rod and kayak.

The session is intended for kayakers with some spin fishing experience who want to learn how to fish from their kayak. The workshop fee of $275 includes meals and lodging at Purity Spring Resort (set on Purity Lake in New Hampshire's White Mountains), instruction, program materials and use of some equipment.

To register, visit www.nhbow.com and download the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Kayak Fishing Weekend workshop brochure and mail-in registration form, or call 603-271-3212 or email aquatic-ed@wildlife.nh.gov to request an application.

Applications are accepted on a first-come, first served basis, by mail or in person at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H.  Classes fill up fast, so sign up soon if you are interested. Participants must be 18 years or older.  The registration deadline is August 27, 2010.

"This workshop is an ideal chance for women who like to get out and kayak to gain skills they  can use to enjoy another exciting outdoor activity on the water," said Karina Walsh, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department's Let's Go Fishing Coordinator and a BOW instructor.

Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshops in New Hampshire are co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department (www.wildnh.com) and the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation (www.nhwf.org).
