Marine Rule Hearing May 10 on Gear Restrictions, Salters and the Winnicut River
DURHAM, N.H. -- The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department will hold a public hearing on proposed marine rule changes on Monday, May 10, 2010, at 7 p.m., at the Urban Forestry Center, 45 Elwyn Road, Portsmouth, N.H.
The proposed rules would affect those taking marine fish by gill net, mobile gear or hook gear and persons taking salters (sea-run trout) in the Winnicut River in Greenland, N.H.
Fish and Game is proposing to:
- Readopt with amendment rules relative to gill netting restrictions and mobile gear restrictions by adding Atlantic wolffish, Atlantic halibut and ocean pout;
- Readopt rules with no changes to the restrictions for using hook gear, however by an existing reference in the rule, the restrictions would also include Atlantic wolffish, Atlantic halibut and ocean pout;
- Readopt rules relative to salters (trout that spend part of their life cycle in brackish or saltwater) to create an exception to the one-fish limit for the Winnicut River in Greenland; and
- Readopt rules relative to the Winnicut River to redefine a section of the river since the dam has been removed; to have a 5-fish or 5-pound limit for salters taken in the section of the river from the Route 33 bridge to the railroad bridge; and to clarify that there is no closed season in that section of river.
The proposed rule, with original and proposed language, may be found at www.wildnh.com/Legislative/Notices_summary.htm.
Written comments on the proposed changes may be submitted by May 20, 2010; e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org (please put "Comment on Marine Rules" in subject line); fax to (603) 271-1438; or mail to Executive Director, N.H. Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH 03301.
