DURHAM, N.H. – The public is invited to provide input on the programs and activities of the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, as managed by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, at a public meeting to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at the Hugh Gregg Coastal Conservation Center, 89 Depot Road, Greenland, N.H. Great Bay was designated as a National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) site in 1989, making it the 18th estuary in the United States to join the system. As a federal/state partnership, Reserves are committed to the long-term research, education and stewardship of valuable estuarine resources. The Great Bay Research Reserve operates under the auspices of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) within the authority of the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA). The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department has served as the lead state agency since 1989.
Some helpful resources exploring the many programs and activities of the Great Bay Research Reserve are posted on the N.H. Fish and Game website at www.wildnh.com/marine/#gbneer, including Ecological Trends in the Great Bay Estuary, the Reserve's 20th anniversary report, published in 2009; and a summary of the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve's approved Management Plan for 2006-2010.
Written comments about the Great Bay Research Reserve are encouraged (participation at the public meeting is not required for submission). Written comments should be sent no later than June 4, 2010, to Carrie Hall, NOAA/NOS/OCRM, 1305 East-West Highway, N/ORM7, Silver Spring, MD 20910, or via e-mail to Carrie.Hall@noaa.gov.
