Weekend Snowmobile Fatality in Charlestown
CONCORD, N.H. -- On Sunday, January 17, 2010, shortly after 8:00 PM, Charlestown Emergency Services and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department were called to a snowmobile accident in the vicinity of North Hemlock Road and Old Claremont Road. 43-year-old Leland Judd Jr. of Claremont had been riding alone in a field when his snowmobile collided with the embankment of a drainage ditch where a brook crosses under the North Hemlock Road. Judd was taken by ambulance to the Springfield (VT) Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the accident continues, though initial indications are that speed, weather, and visibility may have been factors. At the time of the accident the weather was freezing rain and snow. Judd was not wearing a helmet.
