Winnicut River Dam Removal Project Event, October 15 in Greenland, NH
Media and Public Invited to Celebrate Dam Removal and Launch of New Restoration Partnership
Greenland, NH – On October 15, partners of the Winnicut River restoration project will gather near the site of the newly demolished Winnicut River Dam in Greenland, N.H. to celebrate the project’s recent successes and the culmination of about seven years of work. In addition, ten agencies and organizations will launch the new Partnership to Restore New Hampshire's Estuaries. The Partnership's goal is to increase the pace and scale of activities that enhance salt marshes, eelgrass meadows, fish spawning grounds, shellfish beds, and other important estuarine systems.
What: Restoration Celebration
When: Thursday, October 15, 2009; 2:00 p.m.
Where: Winnicut Dam removal site, Bayside Road, Greenland, N.H. 03840; the site is located at the intersection of Route 33 and Bayside Road. Parking is available at Gowen's, 1 Bayside Road.
Following the ceremony, project partners will lead a tour of the former dam site for interested attendees.
The Winnicut River restoration project aims to restore migratory and resident fish movement on the mainstem of the Winnicut River through the removal of the dam and installation of a new fishpass structure. All work on the project is slated to be completed by late fall.
