Grouse Hunter Shot in Foot in Self-inflicted Hunting-related Shooting

CONCORD, N.H. - A North Country grouse hunter shot himself yesterday (Tuesday, October 6, 2009) and is being treated for a serious injury to his foot at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.  Allen Williams, of Colebrook, age 41, was getting back to his truck after grouse hunting in Pittsburg, N.H., at about 2:30 p.m., when he stumbled and the 12-gauge shotgun he was carrying discharged and a round went into his foot. A fellow hunter transported Williams from the shooting scene to the Upper Connecticut Valley Regional Hospital by private vehicle; Williams was then transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center by ambulance. There were two people in the hunting party.

An investigation of the incident is being conducted by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.
