Marine Rule Hearing December 2, 2008, on Commercial Haddock Length, Lobster Rules

DURHAM, N.H. -- The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department will hold a public hearing on proposed marine rule changes on December 2, 2008, at 7 p.m. at the Urban Forestry Center, 45 Elwyn Road, Portsmouth, N.H.  The hearing will be of particular interest to commercial harvesters of haddock and lobster.

The proposed rule changes under consideration would increase the minimum length for haddock taken commercially from 18 to 19 inches, to make it compatible with the length requirement in Federal waters for haddock. The minimum length for haddock taken by recreational anglers is currently 19 inches as well.

Fish and Game also proposes to re-adopt, with no change, rules relative to restrictions for persons assisting commercial lobster licensees.

The complete marine rulemaking notice forms, with original and proposed rule language, may be found at

Written comments on the proposed changes may be submitted by December 15, 2008.  E-mail to (please put "Comment on Marine Rules" in subject line); fax to (603) 271-1438; or mail to Executive Director, N.H. Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH 03301.
