Become an Outdoors-Woman this Winter!

CONCORD, N.H. - Women who want to explore active outdoor interests like ice-fishing or snowshoeing can attend a one-day Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (B.O.W.) winter workshop on Saturday, February 21, 2009 (snow date Sunday, February 22), at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department's Owl Brook Hunter Education Center in Holderness, N.H.  The workshop costs $55, which includes a box lunch. Participants must be at least 18 years old.  Winter B.O.W. is sponsored jointly by N.H. Fish and Game and the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation.

Course descriptions are available now at www.nhbow.com.  The registration form will be posted there on January 5, 2009, when registration opens. Applications may also be requested by contacting Lisa.M.Collins@wildlife.nh.gov or call (603) 271-3212; these will be mailed January 5.  Try to sign up soon after registration opens, because the session fills up fast.

At the winter B.O.W. workshop, participants focus on a single topic for the day's activities.  Choices include ice fishing; winter outdoor survival skills; basic snowshoeing and tracking; snowmobiling; and 'Shoe and Shoot, which combines snowshoeing and target shooting.

"Women have a great time at the winter workshop, and they really seem to appreciate having the chance to learn exciting outdoor activities in the company of other women," said B.O.W. Coordinator Tina Davenport. "The skills they learn from our expert B.O.W. instructors will allow them to spend enjoyable time outdoors with their families - or on their own - during New Hampshire's long winters."

The N.H. Wildlife Federation is a nonprofit group that advocates for the promotion and protection of hunting, fishing and trapping, as well as the conservation of fish and wildlife habitat. Visit www.nhwf.org.
