Wildlife Control Operator Class Offered
CONCORD, N.H. - The New Hampshire Wildlife Control Operators (WCO) training class, usually offered once a year, will take place on January 10, 2008, at Fish and Game headquarters at 11 Hazen Drive in Concord. The one-day class is free. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged; to pre-register, call 603-271-2461 or e-mail email@example.com. Participants MUST be present by 8:15 a.m.; late arrivals will be denied certification.
The course is presented by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, the New Hampshire Trappers Association, the New Hampshire Wildlife Control Operators Association and U.S. Department of Agriculture-Wildlife Services.
Since 2003, people who conduct commercial nuisance wildlife control in New Hampshire are required to be licensed WCO operators. As part of the licensing requirement, they must first complete a six-hour WCO class given once a year in Concord; they also must successfully complete a Fish and Game Trapper Education Course. A Wildlife Control Operators License is required for anyone planning to provide nuisance wildlife control in New Hampshire, except for licensed trappers during the regulated trapping seasons.
The WCO training class includes presentations on topics including capture and handling of wildlife, humane and ethical concerns, New Hampshire state laws and rules, federal rules covering certain species, wildlife diseases, best management practices and proper trapping techniques.
