Local Teenager Drowns in Skatutakee Lake
CONCORD, N.H. -- The body of Cody E. Blake, age 19, of Penacook, has been recovered from Skatutakee Lake in Harrisville, New Hampshire. Family members have been notified.
The young man was reportedly at a private residence on the lake with three friends on Monday night, July 2, 2007. According to his companions, Blake took a canoe out on the water; he was heard calling out at around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday but did not return to shore. Local police were notified that Blake was missing at approximately 6:30 a.m.
Harrisville Police and Malharris Fire and Rescue responded quickly to the scene. They called in a team of divers from Meadowwood Fire and Rescue of Troy, NH, who located and recovered Blake's body at 10:50 on Tuesday morning, July 3. NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers assisted with the dive effort.
Fish and Game's Lt. John Whitmore said, "This is one of the hardest parts of our job, and our hearts go out to Cody's family. We hope that this sad incident will motivate people to keep a closer eye on each other for safety in and near the water, and to wear a personal floatation device every time they go out in any boat." It appears that alcohol may have been a factor in the drowning.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed. The incident is under investigation by New Hampshire Marine Patrol.
No further information is available at this time.
