Firearms Deer Season Has Ended in WMU A

CONCORD, N.H. -- The season for hunting deer with firearms has ended in New Hampshire's northernmost Wildlife Management Unit, WMU A. The firearms deer season closed there on November 26, 2006. Firearms deer hunting, for antlered deer only, continues through Sunday, December 3, 2006, in the remainder of the state. The archery season continues through December 15, 2006. See the current NH Hunting Digest for hunting season dates (click here and on orange icon).

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department closed the firearms season a week early this year in WMU A in order to reduce harvest pressure on bucks in that unit. The closure is intended to achieve a more even balance between yearling bucks and older age-class bucks in the unit. When the desired balance is achieved, consideration will be given to restoring the season to its original length.
