Proposed Change to Atlantic Herring Spawning Regulation
DURHAM, NH -- New Hampshire Fish and Game's Marine Fisheries Division today announced that there will be an Atlantic herring hearing at the Urban Forestry Center, 45 Elwyn Road in Portsmouth, on September 5, 2006 at 7:00 pm.
This hearing centers around a change in the sea herring regulation, Fis 603.07. There is a proposed change from a 20% tolerance of spawn herring to a zero tolerance of spawn herring allowed to be taken during a spawning closure in New Hampshire state waters, to protect spawning fish. A spawning closure in New Hampshire state waters generally occurs from September 21 through October 19.
