Two Missing Swanzey Children Are Found Safe
CONCORD, N.H. -- Two children who were reported missing after wandering from their home in Swanzey yesterday afternoon were located this morning at approximately 8 a.m. in the woods about 3/4 mile from their residence, according to Capt. Martin Garabedian of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.
Kimberly Wilder, age 12, and Brandon Wilder, age 4, had last been seen playing in front of their residence on Homestead Avenue in Swanzey about 4:30 p.m. yesterday. The Swanzey Police Department was notified about the missing children late in the afternoon yesterday, and began the search; police brought in the N.H. Fish and Game Department at approximately 10 p.m. Last night about 50 searchers combed the woods searching the area, including Fish and Game Conservation Officers; eight dog teams from New England Canine Search and Rescue; personnel from Swanzey Fire and Rescue, Swanzey Police and Upper Valley Search and Rescue; and other volunteers. A New Hampshire State Police helicopter was brought in to assist in the search this morning.
At approximately 8 a.m., one of the dog teams from New England Canine Search and Rescue located the children in a wooded area about 3/4 mile from their home. They had spent the night lost in the woods, with high winds and air temperatures in the 20s. The children are being evacuated this morning. Their condition is being evaluated.
