Massachusetts Hiker Pronounced Dead
CONCORD, N.H. -- N.H. Fish and Game has received word from Littleton Hospital that Brenda Cox, of Andover, Massachusetts, has been pronounced dead. Family members have been notified. The cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office.
Cox's husband, Russell, is undergoing treatment at the hospital and is reportedly doing well.
The Coxes were evacuated from the summit of Mt. Lafayette in New Hampshire's White Mountains this morning, following an intensive search and rescue effort involving dozens of rescue staff and volunteers from around the state.
Lt. Todd Bogardus expressed sympathy on behalf of N.H. Fish and Game and rescue personnel. "We were hoping for the best throughout the search, and we are extremely sad about this outcome. Our hearts go out to Mr. Cox and his family."
