Striped Bass Limit Increased
DURHAM, N.H. -- Anglers fishing for striped bass this season can now take home two fish instead of one under new rules issued recently by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. The regulations increasing the daily bag limit for striped bass became effective on May 1, 2003.
The new rule increases the daily limit on striped bass, a saltwater species, to two fish. Previously, anglers could take only one striped bass per day. The ruling also sets a new size limitation, specifying that only one of the two fish may be over 40 inches in total length. The minimum length, 28 inches, remains the same as under previous rules.
The rule change is in compliance with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Management Plan. It brings New Hampshire's rules affecting striped bass in line with those of other states on the Eastern seaboard, most of which now set a two-fish creel limit.
Questions regarding the new striped bass regulations may be directed to N.H. Fish and Game at (603) 868-1095.
