Lowell, Mass., Man Injured in Sandown Trail Bike Accident

Sandown, NH – A 26 year-old man from Lowell, Massachusetts, Abner Mestre, sustained serious injury to his upper body after he lost control of a dirt bike and crashed while operating on the Rockingham Recreational Trail in Sandown the evening of Thursday, July 24, 2014.  Mestre was transported by ambulance to Parkland Medical Center and then flown to Boston Medical Center.

The man was out riding with two friends on the designated trail when the accident occurred.  The accident was reported to authorities at 6:10 p.m.  Emergency personnel from Sandown Fire and Rescue, Trinity Ambulance, and police officers from Sandown and State Police responded to the scene.

New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officer Chris McKee also responded to the scene and is investigating the crash.  At this time, it appears speed along with inexperience with the dirt bike were contributing factors.  Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.  The man was wearing a helmet and goggles at the time of the accident.

No further information is available at this time.
