Man Shot While Turkey Hunting
Dunbarton, N.H. – A 58-year-old male was injured in an early morning hunting-related shooting incident in Dunbarton on Saturday May 10, 2014. At approximately 7:20 a.m,. a Hooksett, NH, man was shot by his hunting companion in a wooded area near Twist Hill Road in Dunbarton. The victim, 58 year old Glen Ranfos, sustained non-life threatening injuries, after being struck by several bird shot pellets fired from his hunting companion, Kenneth Ranfos.
Glen was sitting in a brushy area awaiting the arrival of Kenneth. As Kenneth approached Glen’s location, he saw movement in the brush, and saw what he believed was a turkey. He then took aim on the movement, and fired a single shot from his 12 gauge shotgun. The movement he observed was Glen removing his hat.
After realizing what had just occurred, Kenneth then drove Glen to a Manchester Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released.
This situation could have been avoided in the shooter had positively identified his target prior to firing a shot.
The Dunbarton Police Department, and NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers responded to the accident location. Upon their arrival, the victim and shooter had left the area to get medical attention.
The incident is under investigation by New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers.
