Reminder - Saturday, June 7, 2014, Is New Hampshire's Free Fishing Day!

More fishing fun: June 7, 2014, is also Hatchery Open House and New England DemFly fishing in Benningtono Day

CONCORD, N.H. – Start making plans to get out and go fishing on Free Fishing Day -- Saturday, June 7, 2014. On Free Fishing Day, you can fish anywhere in New Hampshire – freshwater or saltwater -- without a fishing license. Both state residents and nonresidents may participate. So get your friends and family together and enjoy a day of fishing fun.

All other fishing regulations must be followed on Free Fishing Day, including season dates and bag limits. One exception is that you still need a fishing license and a special permit to fish for brood stock Atlantic salmon in the Merrimack and lower Pemigewasset rivers. For details on fishing rules for various waters, consult the 2014 N.H. Freshwater and Saltwater fishing digests, available at

You can find lots more helpful information about fishing on the Fish and Game website at, including waterbodies that have been recently stocked with fish, trout waters, lake depths, public access sites and more.

Free Fishing Day coincides with Hatchery Open House Day in New Hampshire, so plan to stop in and visit one of New Hampshire's six state-operated trout hatcheries from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Find directions at

Also on June 7, come try the latest gear, lures, flies, rods and kayaks at the Free New England Demo Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Contoocook River Canoe Company, 9 Horse Hill Road in Concord, N.H. "Just as the fishing and paddling season is revving up, this is your chance to try out that new fishing kayak you have been dreaming of and test out a new rod, all for free," says Fish and Game's Advertising and Promotions Coordinator Mark Beauchesne, himself an avid kayak angler. Fish and Game biologists will be on hand to help you discover that hot fishing spot near you. Come meet noted fishing personalities, including local guides and captains. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by Jase Custom Fishing Rods, Contoocook River Canoe, and the N.H. Fish and Game Department. For directions, visit
