Snowmobiler Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in Pittsburg Crash
LANCASTER, N.H. -- A woman from southern New Hampshire was seriously injured earlier yesterday (Tuesday, January 28, 2014) after colliding with a tree on Trail 20 near Indian Stream in Pittsburg, N.H., and later died after being transported to a medical center in Maine.
Shortly after noon, Pauline Robinson, age 47, of Hudson, N.H., and her husband David Robinson were riding south from Pittsburg Village toward Indian Stream. At a location approximately two miles from Indian Stream Road, Mrs. Robinson lost control of her snowmobile after entering an icy section of trail, causing the snowmobile to leave the trail and crash into a tree. Mrs. Robinson was found by her husband shortly after the crash. After checking on his wife, Mr. Robinson rode back to Pittsburg village and made a call for help. Other snowmobilers using the trail stopped to stay with Mrs. Robinson while rescuers were responding to the scene.
Rescuers from Pittsburg Fire, 45th Parallel EMS, Pittsburg Police and New Hampshire Fish and Game were made aware of the incident and responded to the scene. A helicopter from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center responded to the scene as well. Members of the Pittsburg Fire Department were able to utilize snowmobiles and a rescue sled to extract Mrs. Robinson from the woods. Once at the roadside, Mrs. Robinson was checked by 45th Parallel EMS staff and then transferred to the DHART helicopter. Due to her injuries, Mrs. Robinson was immediately flown to Central Maine Medical Center for further treatment. At approximately 6:00 PM Pauline Robinson died of her injuries.
Although this crash is still under investigation, authorities believe that an unintentional hit of the throttle was the primary cause of this crash.
