Drawdown to Occur at Pleasant Lake, New London
CONCORD, N.H. – Pleasant Lake in New London, N.H., (Merrimack County) will begin a water level drawdown beginning Monday, September 16, 2013, in order to make repairs to the Pleasant Lake dam. This lowering is to allow for the necessary repairs of cracks in the concrete face wall of the dam, which were identified in a Letter of Deficiency (LOD) by the N.H. Department of Environmental Services Dam Bureau.
A note for anglers: So-called "trash racks" will be utilized during the drawdown to minimize the impact on the current fisheries. These devices will help prevent adult fish from leaving the impoundment while the drawdown occurs. This will help ensure that there will be landlocked salmon of legal size, along with some trophy brook trout, available during the spring fishery.
For more information, please contact Carol Henderson, Environmental Review Coordinator at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, at 603-271-3511 or email@example.com.
Depending on weather and water level of the lake, the public is advised that water levels in Pleasant Lake may be down by between thee and four feet. Work is proposed to begin on the dam sometime around September 30, 2013, and is expected to be completed by the end of October, before the arrival of freezing temperatures. Once the work is complete, the dam gate will be set to winter levels.
