Errol Man Killed in Snowmobile Crash

LANCASTER, N.H. -- John Allen, age 63, of Errol, N.H., was killed on Sunday, February 17, 2013, as a result of injuries sustained in a snowmobile crash in the town of Pittsburg.

At approximately 2:00 PM on February 17, emergency personnel were called to respond to the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Trail 138, in the vicinity of River Road in Pittsburg. Initial reports indicated that the male snow machine operator was unconscious and not breathing.

Conservation Officers from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, along with members of Pittsburg Fire and Rescue, 45th Parallel EMS and Pittsburg Police Department responded to the scene, where Allen was found unresponsive against some trees approximately 15 feet from the groomed trail.  Several snowmobilers from other riding parties stopped to render assistance at the scene as well, including a registered nurse.

Resuscitation efforts were immediately initiated, and Allen was transported from the scene by rescue sled, with CPR in progress. Allen succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead later that afternoon.

Excessive speed appears to have been the primary factor contributing to the incident.

No further information is available at this time.
