Karner Blue Butterfly and Pine Barrens Habitat Restoration Assistant
NH FISH AND GAME DEPARTMENT - Nongame and Endangered Wildlife Program
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department has two temporary, full time positions available to assist in all aspects of the Karner blue butterfly and Pine Barrens habitat restoration. The anticipated start date will be May 3. The position will not exceed 25 weeks. Positions will work out of NH Fish and Game Headquarters, in Concord, NH. Applications must be submitted to NH Fish and Game by March 1, 2013.
Duties will include, but not limited to:
- To care for Karner blue butterflies at all life stages in the captive rearing facility
- To plant wild blue lupine and other native nectar plants
- To collect seeds from native plants
- To monitor moth and butterfly species under the supervision of Nongame Program staff
- To maintain tools and facilities associated with the projects.
- To assist with other projects as assigned.
Education: Completion of eighth grade or its equivalent.
Experience: No experience required.
License/Certification: Driver’s License Required.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Ability to carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to use basic gardening tools. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees. Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to lift heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
