Biologist III

Salary: $42,841.50-$50,914.50

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department currently has a Biologist III position available. This position is located at Headquarters, 11 Hazen Drive, in Concord.

Basic Purpose: To perform responsible supervisory duties involved with implementation of the statewide public boat access program, in the Facilities, Construction and Lands Resources Division of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.  

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Supervisor’s subordinates engaged in developing plans for a variety of program services and conducts annual performance evaluations and approves leave and associated request.
      
  • Develops long-range plans to provide legal public passage to any public water of the state by way of designated land owned or controlled by a state agency.

  • Investigates and evaluates existing land acquisition programs within the Department, other state agencies and private conservation groups in order to develop access to, and use of, public waters for recreational purposes.

  • Develops, supervises and participates in a neutral criteria site selection process and site evaluation procedure to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations and policies.

  • Represents the Department at public hearings, state surplus land reviews, legislative committee meetings, advisory board meetings and private group meetings to discuss public access issues and needs.

  • Confers with federal and state agencies, town officials, private conservation groups, sporting clubs, lake associations and other interested parties in order to ensure the success and smooth flow of access project development throughout the state.

  • Responds as a professional biologist to public, municipal, media, inter-agency and governmental agency requests for technical advice and assistance regarding boat access issues.

  • Collects biological, social, economic and political information to prepare documents and reports for local, state and federal officials. 
     
  • Coordinates the activities of contracted environmental consultants to ensure the development of safe, attractive, functional and user-friendly public boat access facilities throughout the state.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Master’s degree from a recognized college or university with a major in biology, wildlife or related biological science.  Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience Four years experience in work as a professional biologist performing wildlife, fisheries or aquatic biological research, or in a field of related specializations, two years of which shall have been in a supervisory or management capacity.  Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education at the graduate level only.
 
License/Certification Valid New Hampshire driver’s license.
